Zuhair Murad Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2015

Zuhair Murad is a fashion designer who I have recently come across. I was looking on WGSN at different designers and catwalks for Spring/Summer 2015 which is when I saw Zuhair Murad's collection which I absolutely loved. I loved the different styles and colours of each dress that came onto the Catwalk. He includes embroidery and a lot of sequins to make his collection stand out.

Birmingham Clothes Show Live

Figure 1

In December 2013, I attended the Clothes Show in Birmingham. At the clothes show, there was a Catwalk event, a big hall full of different stands that were either beauty products (such as Barry M, W7, Mac etc), clothing brands (mainly little businesses), areas wardened off for celebrity book signings and several other stands. These little businesses were up and coming designers with their products that had never been seen before. You got the chance to have the first look. In the centre of the big hall, there was also a smaller catwalk where Jamie Laing from Made in Chelsea was there to help out with the Catwalk (as shown in Figure 2).

Young designers who were university graduates had the chance to show off their designs on the Catwalk. There were some beautiful pieces of work, it was just unfortunate they weren't there on the day. Their designs were inspiring.

PURE Fashion Trade Show, London

On the 10th February, I went to London Olympia to a Trade Fashion Event/ Exhibition called PURE. It was not only an opportunity for businesses (both British and international brands) to show off their products, but also for buyers to browse around and purchase products for their own businesses. It was like a wholesalers. These were not brands that you may have heard a lot about like Topshop or River Island, they were small but new and up-and-coming brands for example 'Air & Grace', a shoe company selling boots, flats and low heels. 'Beautiful shoes for busy feet.' The international brands include ones from Australia such as Alison Dominy, an Australian designer who creates plus size fashion ranging from work attire, to occasional and evening wear in sizes 14-24.

The images below were taken during my visit to Pure.

What's NEXT

Next has been named the top bricks and mortar retailer for customer service across social media, beating Marks and Spencer, John Lewis and Ikea, (marketing magazine, 2013).

Figure 1

Figure 1 is a photo of the store entrance of NEXT in the White Rose shopping centre, Leeds. It is located at one of the ends of the shopping centre next to Sainsbury's and opposite River Island, Zara and Boots.

Figure 2

Figure 2 shows one of the window displays. This one has different mannequins both make and female and they are wearing the latest clothing products (at this point, it was the new Spring Collection). There are spotlights with a light blue and white background and framed photos of the beach, pal trees and other images portraying the Spring/Summer season.

As you enter NEXT, the shoes are on the left and the womenswear take up most of the ground floor. The kids clothing is on the far right of the store and menswear and home ware are upstairs. Womenswear is split up into different categories in terms of colour. For example blue, red and white clothes are displayed together,  yellow clothes are displayed with a lighter blue and white and pinks are with darker purple colours. There is also a petite and denim section, and a rail of plain tops that are in different colours as shown in Figures 3-12.

In NEXT, there are spotlights and white walls throughout the store. Despite the amount if items displayed in the store, the white walls make the store look bigger as well as the use of cream/light grey tiled flooring. Music is played at an appropriate level and it is music suitable for the family.
